The Power Of Doing Things Alone

When I became a single mom, I didn’t want to go out much especially alone. I’ve heard people say it before… I can’t believe you go to the movies or go out to eat alone, etc.

Why not? I do not see anything wrong with it.

I think that it shows power and confidence when you can go out and truly live in the moment by yourself. I love people-watching, enjoy the quietness, or even just catch up on some of my personal mindset. I think more people should do it, simply because being alone is a wonderful feeling. You can really learn a lot about yourself.

Don’t get me wrong we always need to hang out with other people, but it is also important to have time alone. There are plenty of ways to have personal time, so do what is best for you.

I honestly love being able to take time out of my day and learn more about myself. Whenever I go somewhere by myself, I come back inspired.

I mark off on my calendar at least once a month to have a personal day and this is how I do it. As a mother and entrepreneur, this is what gives me new ideas and motivation.  You should do it too. Take care of yourself!

It’s okay to be single in your 30’s

I feel like there is this big misconception that being single doesn’t mean power, or that you are alone … but what if I enjoy being single?

Here is the thing, I have been single for almost three years now. I have dated on and off a few different guys, but nothing has stuck. It is not because of all the obvious reasons; but rather because I refuse to settle.

I have been married before, and I am not just going to settle down with anyone. I have built my own life, that I love and enjoy. Honestly, being single has a lot of great benefits and perks. I am not scared to move forward with the right person.

I’d rather be single than go through the same thing that  I went through before. I truly want to be able to accomplish my goals and dreams for myself and my son. I do not want any distractions or obstacles, this is my time to shine.

I am constantly working on myself, and you should too. Do more of the things that make you happy. Find your way through all the mess and noise. I feel like for the first time in my life I am truly  happy and where I need to be. At the end of the day,  I have learned that I have to take care of myself, and my son for now.

I want to empower and inspire more women. It is okay to be single and divorced in your 30’s… 40’s whatever. As long as you are happy!

How A Single Mom Does It All: I outsource

When I first became a single mom, I thought to myself how am I going to be able to get all the things done… You know the lawn, dishes, cleaning, laundry, work, parenting, etc. The list goes on and on. The struggle was real. I was on a strict budget and could not afford all the things that I wanted.

Now that I have taken control of my life, I am able to manage it much easier and focus on how to manage my time much more efficiently so I am not doing all the things.

The key to single parenting is OUTSOURCING.

  • Pet sitting: If I am going away or out of town, I totally let my friend watch my dog(S) while I am away. I used to have two dogs and it made traveling so much easier. She would watch them and I wouldn’t have to worry about putting them in the kennel. Now that I have one dog, I still sometimes ask her to watch Bella.
  • Cleaning: YES. I outsource cleaning. I have a cleaning lady come once a month and do deep cleaning. This helps to ensure that we are getting in all the cracks and grains that I don’t clean every day. This has been a huge lifesaver for me. She comes for about two hours a month and it really knocks a lot off my plate.
  • Babysitter: Again, this is awesome to have! When I first got divorced, I was nervous and scared to have someone else watch my boy. However, now I have so many great people that I can depend on and rely on that I feel great about having some adult time.
  • Lawn guy: This is perfect, he will do my grass, leaves, and even snow. He covers my yard all year round. I highly suggest outsourcing this.

I have learned that my time is valuable and I love being able to get things off my plate.

What I outsource in business

  • Accounting: If you know me personally, you know that math is my weakness. I am NOT good at all with this. I have found that my anxiety is WAY lower when I have someone doing this for me.
  • CPA: Well, if I do not do the accounting, then I wouldn’t take on the CPA role either. I outsource this and have never looked back since then. I love that my CPA has helped me to create a great system to pay quarterly taxes and get the best bang for my buck.
  • Admin work: I learned a long time ago, that admin work takes up a ton of time. This was one of the first things that I outsourced. I love that I can have someone work on contracts, proposals, and other items so that I can have more time with my clients.
  • Creative tasks: Just this past year, I started to hire and take on team members for writing, design, and website development. If I wanted to grow my company, I needed to be able to have a team to assist.

I didn’t grow any of this overnight. You might not need all the help, but I know that my time is valuable. Figure out what you can outsource, and make it happen.

An Easy Way To Invest In Your Child’s Future

Here’s the thing, I am a big believer in investing. I invest in plenty of different ways for myself professionally and personally. It is no different for my son.

I invested in his 529 Plan (which is a college account). I love that he is already set up for the future, and it can keep building each year. Plus the stock market, adds value often!   I use Victory Capital for my son’s account.

Here is how you can get started:

• Contributions invested offer tax-advantaged growth

• Withdrawals are free from federal taxes for qualified education expenses3

• Funds can pay for K-12 tuition, college, apprenticeship programs, and even student loan repayments

  • You can start with a $50 initial investment and an automatic recurring contribution of at least $50 per month

Communication With An Autistic Child

I asked Antonio as he was putting on his socks do you want to wear shorts or pants. He replied “No socks.”

It got me thinking. He can’t think ahead or understand when he is focused on one thing, the socks. He already had pants on, but it was warm out so I wanted to see if he wanted to put shorts on. However, when I asked this, he was confused.

It is interesting to see how his mind works, so I can better understand how to communicate with him. This isn’t the first time he has done this.

One time at school, they went to the library and the teacher told him to take books out of the library to bring home. He replied, “books stay at the library.” Again, this is another time when he was literal about things, and it was quite funny. It is so interesting to see how things can work differently for each person.

My son has helped me to be a better person and communicator, and also learn more about patience. Being a special needs mom has some great perks to it!

Sometimes it makes me laugh a little, at how literal they can be. It is truly a blessing and interesting to see how his mind works.

Father’s Day is around the corner. Oftentimes I do not know what to get my dad. I like having fun and creative ideas so that they can be used regularly.

Here are some of my favorite gifts for my dad this year:

How Childhood Has Helped Me Grow

I used to feel like the outcast of my family. My brothers and father are engineers. I always say they have the brains… & I  have the creativity genes.

Throughout my childhood, I loved dance, photography, arts, painting, etc. In fact, I always created the dance flyers and programs!

I taught dance for a short time in my life. What I realized was that I LOVED seeing the vision come to life; I saw dance moves go along with the music. It brought me so much joy; I guess you can say I had creativity when I was born.

This journey has taken me to where I am today. I love that I was able to create a vision for my clients.

Baseball With An Autistic Child

Antonio has been playing baseball now and it has been a great experience. Last year, he played but in a different capacity. It was much different because he didn’t quite fully understand the concept too well. I love the progress that he is making and enjoy being a baseball mom.

I can’t help but think about all the progress he has made, but I also know that there is still so much more progress to be made. This baseball is not necessarily “normal.” This is a team for special needs children because they shouldn’t be excluded from items. What I LOVE most is they are paired with a buddy and they help them. (enter link).

It is really fun watching everyone enjoy the game and make progress each week. Antonio is still trying to figure out the pieces. He understands how to run, throw, and hit, but doesn’t know when to do it. He also does not understand to throw the bat when he hits the ball. Regardless of all this, he is having fun and learning.

It is great to have a great support system and options for special needs kiddos. The cost for this is super effective, and then we have to pay for baseball items (check it out here).

Being patient can be hard, but I know that Antonio is making progress and that makes me happy!
